The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has dismissed claims that the newly signed migration agreement between Nigeria and the United Kingdom would permit the deportation of foreign criminals to Nigeria. He clarified that the deal strictly focuses on structured migration management and does not include provisions for transferring offenders from the UK to Nigeria.
The minister explained that the agreement was signed during Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom and forms part of three major accords designed to deepen bilateral cooperation. According to him, the partnership targets improved border security, orderly migration processes, and economic collaboration, stressing that misinformation surrounding the deal should be disregarded.
