Rivers State Chairman of Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, Francis Dimkpa in an interview with our correspondent Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe said the marketers want to know if the Federal government is proposing full deregulation of petrol or not.
Dimkpa said the concern of petroleum marketers is to know if the procurement process for importation will be equally sheared between all the importers and marketers.
He noted that the absence of a functional refinery in the country questions the possibility deregulation in the country.
The PETROAN Chairman also promised that if petroleum marketers finally commence fixing of pump price for petrol, they will put in consideration the people.
Meanwhile; Nigerians are already reacting to the decision by the Federal government.
Some respondents who spoke with our correspondent said it is best for the Federal Government to come together with the petroleum marketers to agree on a price rather than wield the power to the marketers.
The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, had on the 4th of June, removed the cap on the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, giving marketers the freedom to fix the price of the commodity and sell above the price stipulated by it.
