Senator ABE who said Ogoni is in so many ways not better than the horrific conditions of neglect and marginalization that necessitated the Ogoni struggle, expressed hope that change is on the way.
The Ogoni born politician in a statement issued by his spokesperson, PARRY SAROH BENSON on the 2020 Ogoni Day celebration, urged the people to always remember the founding principles of the Ogoni struggle which is the quest for justice, commitment to the environment, demand for political inclusion and most importantly, determination not just to fight for their rights but to do so non-violently.
ABE commended the efforts of Ogoni heroes, including late KENULE SARO WIWA, and all the Ogoni men and women who paid the ultimate price in the struggle for justice and thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI for the commencement of the Ogoni clean-up, which he described as a landmark in addressing the issue of environmental degradation.
He further commended Rivers State government and security agencies for their recent efforts in restoring peace to Ogoniland and urged the people not just to embrace peace but to sustain it.
