President SIRLEAF had placed her bet on HILLARY CLINTON of the Democratic Party, but said it was a missed opportunity that she lost to DONALD TRUMP.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner and Africa’s first democratically elected female president expressed sadness that the United States failed to join smaller democracies in ending the marginalisation of women.
However, President SIRLEAF said she expects that Liberia’s long historical relationship with the United States would continue under the incoming President.
President SIRLEAF said she was worried about trade deals for Liberia and Africa, investment and the special programmes that have been put in place by President BARACK OBAMA and President GEORGE BUSH before him.
The Liberian leader nonetheless expressed worry about existing agreements between the US and her country, but said it was too early to say determine the focus of TRUMP’s presidency on Africa.
