Three days after the ceremony in Abuja which was presided over by the Chairman of the NJC and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice MAHMUD MOHAMMED, a Port Harcourt-based legal practitioner described the move as hasty.
FESTUS OGUCHE who spoke with our correspondent on telephone, said that the judicial policy is not what is required at the moment in the wake of the security clampdown on some suspected corrupt judges.
Instead of a review of the National Judicial Police, FESTUS OGUCHE suggest that the NJC should have considered a code for judicial officer and a review of the constitution to remove impediments to the independence of the judiciary.
The legal practitioner also condemned the provision in the new National Judicial Policy that tends to restrict media access to complaints against judicial officers.
OGUCHE said that provision would not stand the test of time since it was in violation of established laws and conventions.
