Kula Women Protest Two-Year Lack of Electricity, Water Supply

Hundreds of women from Kula community have staged a protest over the prolonged lack of electricity and water supply, which they said has lasted for more than two years.

The women marched to the jetty and security checkpoints in the community, carrying placards to express their grievances. They lamented that the absence of power supply has resulted in severe water scarcity, worsening living conditions in the area.

According to the protesters, the situation has brought untold hardship to residents, making daily life increasingly unbearable in the riverine community. They added that the lack of basic amenities has also contributed to the rising cost of living.

The Kula women appealed to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the authorities of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, the Federal Government, and oil companies operating in the area to urgently intervene and resolve the challenges confronting the community.
