The Russian defeated McGregor at UFC 229 in Las Vegas earlier this month to retain his belt and a perfect record (27-0), although the victory was marred by scenes that followed the fight as both men clashed with individuals from the opposing camps.
But as the dust continues to settle on the fallout from that bout, Nurmagomedov registered an interest in taking on boxer Mayweather, who improved his record to 50-0 with a win of his own over McGregor last year.
Standing alongside Leonard Ellerbe, the chief executive of Mayweather Promotions, at an event in Russia, Nurmagomedov teased that he had handled McGregor better than Mayweather.
Nurmagomedov and McGregor have temporarily been suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for their roles in the UFC 229 brawl, with a meeting set for October 24 to discuss further penalties.
MEANWHILE….
Curtis Jackson has confirmed he plans to travel to Russia to meet Khabib Nurmagomedov after offering the UFC star the opportunity to fight at Bellator.
UFC president Dana White suggested Nurmagomedov could be stripped of his title, while the fighter claimed he might quit the competition, leading rapper and businessman Jackson, commonly known as ’50 Cent’, to give him an opportunity at rival promotion Bellator.
Nurmagomedov replied to Jackson, inviting him to Russia, and the American has now himself responded.
“I’m taking Khabib up on his offer and I’m going to see him and his team in Dagestan after I wrap directing Power,” Jackson wrote, alongside Nurmagomedov’s replies.
He added: “The new face of contact sports is Khabib Nurmagomedov. He is the real deal. I mean he is real and I’m making the deal.”
