The announcement was made by the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, the presidential elections returning officer, at the national tallying centre, Bomas of Kenya.
Chebukati said Ruto pulled seven million one hundred and seventy six thousand, one hundred and forty one, which represents fifty point four nine percent to beat his rival Raila Odinga, who pulled six million, nine hundred and forty two thousand, nine hundred and thirty votes, representing forty eight point eight five per cent in the August 9 election.
In his speech, the 55-year old commended the people of Kenya for giving him the opportunity to contribute his quota in the service of the country.
