A stack of about five thousand, two hundred and fifty assorted weapons seized from criminals was set alight on the outskirts of the capital, Nairobi.
Deputy President WILLIAM RUTO was joined by Interior Cabinet Secretary JOSEPH NKAISSERY to inspect the firearms before they were destroyed.
In a brief remark; RUTO said firearms in the hands of wrong people continue to violate the peace and stability of Kenya, and threaten the security of the country.
He said armed violence, community conflict, cattle rustling, poaching violent crime all contribute to make illicit firearms dangerous for the country.
The Kenyan authorities estimate that at least five hundred thousand guns are illegally held by civilians in the country.
