Kano: Yusuf heads to Supreme Court after Appeal Court sacking

In the notice of appeal filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Gboyega Awomolo, leading seven other senior advocates and ten other lawyers, the NNPP listed ten grounds for challenging the appeal.

Listed as respondents in the notice of appeal are Governor Abba Yusuf, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

Recall that the Appeal Court had sacked Yusuf, of, over ineligibility to contest while declaring the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the governorship election in the state.

There has been confusion over the Appeal Court judgement that sacked YUSUF as the court has asked concerned lawyers to return certified true copies of its judgement for corrections.

However, the certified true copies of the judgement triggered confusion as it indicated that the court upheld Yusuf’s victory.

In the meantime, protests rocked Kano State yesterday following the sacking of Governor Abba Yusuf by an Appeal Court.

The fresh protests followed the Certified True Copy of the judgement which appeared in public domain and seemed contrary to the verdict of the appellate court.

Some of the protesters said they were ready to die as they demanded justice.

Police authorities in Kano had vowed to clamp down on any group protesting in the state following the sacking of the governor.
