The Kalabari Democratic Front (KDF) has expressed serious concern over rising tensions between the executive and legislative arms of the Asari-Toru Local Government.
In a statement, the pan-Kalabari political watchdog condemned the growing hostility, distrust, and public disagreements between the Local Government Chairman and the Legislative Council. The group attributed the friction to political forces within the local government and warned that the rivalry is hindering progress.
The KDF noted that a council once praised for prompt and effective service delivery—especially during the chairman’s previous tenure—is now showing visible signs of decline. It emphasized that meaningful development cannot thrive amid constant conflict.
According to the statement, signed by the National Secretary of the Kalabari Democratic Front, Ayanate West, and the ASALGA representative, Dapasisi Oyigbo, the ongoing discord between the chairman and councilors has stalled governance, leaving residents of Asari-Toru to bear the consequences.
