Justice ADEMOLA ADENIYI of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has directed the Department of State Services to immediately obey its order for former National Security Adviser, SAMBO DASUKI, to travel abroad for medical treatment. Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that DASUKI had on Monday approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an enforcement of his fundamental rights to dignity and life. He asked the court for a mandatory order compelling the Federal Government and its agent, the DSS, to vacate his house at Asokoro area of Abuja. You will recall that the Court had approved the release of DASUKI’s travel documents to enable him travel overseas for medical checkup, but operatives of the DSS last Friday returned to the Abuja home of the former NSA to lay siege. The DSS later explained that the move against DASUKI was different from the case for which he was being prosecuted, stressing that he had declined to honour invitations to appear before a community investigating a separate two billion dollars arms purchase deal. Ruling on an application brought by DASUKI’s counsel, Justice ADEMOLA directed the lawyer to the DSS to inform his clients to comply with the earlier order issued on 3rd of November. Justice ADEMOLA also resolved to send his staff to go to the residence of DASUKI and observed if the DSS has called off its siege.
The presiding judge also asked the prosecuting counsel to confer with the Attorney-General on the Matter, scheduling next Monday for determination of DASUKI’S application. The court also summoned the Attorney-General to be present in court on Monday next week for a definite hearing.
