Ivory Coast ban production, importation, sale of alcohol in sachets.

A government spokesman BRUNO KONE said the ban was aimed at minimizing the impact of alcohol on young people, especially students.

He said the decision to ban the sachets of alcohol was taken after a cabinet meeting based on a proposal the ministry of commerce.

BRUNO KONO said such products are mostly smuggled into the country, and do not meet the required standards and therefore constitute a real threat to the health of consumers.

A similar ban is in force in Cameroon, Malawi and Senegal.
