But just as the courts opened for proceedings, scores of pro-Biafra protesters besieged the premises, chanting war songs, in a show of solidarity with the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Reports say it took the intervention of armed security operatives to restrain the protesters from gaining access into the courtroom.
NNAMDI KANU is being tried by the Federal Government, alongside CHIDIEBERE ONWUDIWE, BENJAMIN MADUBUGWU and DAVID NWAWUISI.
The case is now being handled by Justice BINTA NYAKA, who is now the third judge to take on the case.
At the end of today’s proceedings; Justice NYAKO denied bail to all the four accused persons, and the defendants were whisked away from the court premises by operatives of the Department of State Security.
The accused persons are facing eleven counts of treasonable felony and acts of terrorism.
In their defence; the accused persons claimed that their right to self determination was guaranteed by the Nigeria constitution and the Africa Charter on Peoples and Human Right.
They equally argued that the IPOB which they belong to had not been banned under any law, adding that the group also enjoys recognition in over thirty countries around the world.
