Pope FRANCIS has issued a thirty-day ultimatum to all the priests involved in the resistance against the appointment of Bishop OKPALEKE to pledge obedience to him and accept the new bishop.
According to a report by the Associated Press news agency, which cited a statement published by Vatican newspaper, Romano, the priests who continue to disobey the Pope would be suspended.
The priests have until 9th July to pledge total obedience to the Pope and acceptance of Bishop OKPALEKE’s appointment, which must be made in a letter.
The Vatican has after a meeting with the interested parties on 8th June, issued a statement in which it described the situation at Ahiara Diocese as unacceptable.
Bishop PETER OKPALEKE was first appointed in 2012 by former Pope BENEDICT the Sixteenth, but priests at the local church refused to accept him because he is not from within their domain.
