IG orders dismantling Roadblocks Nationwide.

The order specifically covers Lagos-Ibadan, Shagamu-Benin, Benin-Onitsha, Okene-Abuja and Kaduna-Kano highways, as well as Katsina – Kano, Otukpo – Enugu and Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressways.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Office, JIMOH MOSHOOD, the IGP’s directives became necessary to enhance the ease of doing business in Nigeria, as well as safeguard and guarantee free passage of goods and travellers throughout the country.
MOSHOOD who is a Chief Superintendent of Police said the order requires that if any police department, section, squad or unit that must mount road block, it must be done with the express permission of the Inspector General of Police.
Consequently, all Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal Commands, State Commissioners of Police and Heads of Departments must ensure that every patrol vehicle carries a conspicuous and legible inscription of Patrol vehicle identification number and dedicated emergency phone numbers for ease of identification and report of distress by members of the public.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of border patrol is specifically directed to ensure compliance with this directive along the border routes in the country, except the few approved points by the Federal Government.
Furthermore, police personnel who are involve in vehicular patrol on highways and major roads across the country must wear on their uniforms a bold name tag and service number.
The IGP has ordered the Special X-Squad teams deployed throughout the country to arrest and discipline any police personnel caught in violation of the directive.
The Special X-Squads are also to embark on the removal of all forms of illegal obstructions on highways and roads by unlawful revenue and tax collectors, road transport unions, labour and trade related unions.
The Force spokesman explained in the statement that the Taxes and Levies Act, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 does not allow any person, including a tax authority, to mount a road block in any part of the Federation for the purposes of collecting any tax or levy.
