Judges at the International Criminal Court in The Hague want AMAD AL-FAQI AL-MAHDI to pay more than three million dollars to victims of the attacks.
AL-MAHDI is currently serving nine years imprisonment following his conviction by the ICC in September last year.
He pleaded guilty to war crimes over the destruction of ten ancient mausoleums and religious sites in Timbuktu.
