Dekil also wants the Ogoni leadership to remove community related issues and frivolous demands impeding the smooth implementation of the Ogoni Clean-up project.
The HYPREP Project Coordinator made the appeal during his address at the 25th memorial for Late Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni martyrs at Bane, Khana Local Government area of Rivers State.
While urging Ogonis to be goodwill ambassadors of the project by showcasing the good work of the project to garner more support at home and internationally for the project, Dekil said there is need to engage more with the Project Coordination Office to acquaint themselves with the activities and operations of HYREP.
Marvin Dekil therefore listed; management of people’s perception concerning the mandate of HYPREP, land ownership disputes and leadership tussle in some communities particularly in Gokana, Tai and Khana Local Government Areas, disruption of remediation works due to flooding of some project sites and managing attitudes of stakeholders who feel left out on the governing structure of HYPREP as some of the major challenges affecting the Ogoni clean-up process.
