Today FM’s correspondent gathered that the killing comes less than three months after gunmen suspected to be cultists, raped the wife of a Pastor identified as Chigbewejim Lawyer to death in the community.
The Public Relations Officer of Akoh Youth Congress, Ekeakita Hector-Chinem who confirmed the killing to today FM, said the victim was shot to death in his father’s compound.
Hector-Chinem who said Matthew fought against cultists and insecurity in the community, called on security agencies and the political leaders to beef up security in Ekpeye land.
When contacted, Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police command, Superintendent of Police, Grace Iringe-Koko who said the command is aware of the incident,revealed that the command has identified the suspect who led the gang that killed the Youth leader.
SP Iringe-Koko said the Kingpin and other culprits are yet to be arrested, adding that efforts are on to arrest the culprits as investigation continues.
