Gunmen kill four soldiers, steal arms in Rivers

Information from the Rivers State Police Command reveals that the unknown gunman also abducted two expatriates and fled through a nearby river in the area.

Today FM gathered that the military officers were on an escort duty when the criminals ambushed them on their way from Bayelsa State to Abua/Odual.

Reacting to the incident, the acting Deputy Director, Six Division, Nigerian Army Port Harcourt, Major Danjuma Jonah in a statement said troops of 5 Battalion on routine escort duty for an oil servicing company at Enweh West manifold, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State were attacked by suspected militants, at Emesu junction, along Amungboro -Emuphan road.

Major Jonah confirmed that 4 soldiers were killed in action, with 2 other oil workers unaccounted for, but assured that troops are currently combing the general area to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
