This is believed to be a move to take power from the Upland section of the state which has held sway since 2007.

Therefore some stakeholders from the Kalabari and Ogoni ethnic nationalities have signed a treaty to work together to ensure that power rotates to the Riverine people in the next political dispensation.

Leader of, Kengema Unity Forum, Sobomabo Jacrich who led other stakeholders of the Kalabari Kingdom at the strategic meeting between the two ethnic groups held in Degema Local Government Area, said the realities of political marginalization and lopsided development of the state have informed the need for the Ogonis and the Kalabaris to work together to achieve their political and economic freedom.

On his part, a former freedom fighter, Asari Dokubo said political freedom of the two major ethnic groups of the state was inevitable as they have agreed to work in synergy.

On their part, some ogoni takeholders including the leader of Ogoni Liberation Initiative, Fabike Douglas noted that they have agreed to work together with the Kalabaris.
