The Nigerian army had on December 26 said its troops arrested one Godwin Nnamdi, a suspected leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu state during a clearance operation in the area.
But the group in a statement said the army allegedly cooked up the statement to cover backlash and outcries arising from its operation of the Night of 24th/25th December 2021 at the Egudene-Ekpofu.
The group said the investigation carried out by the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law and contrary to the Nigerian Army claims, the said ESN Commander, identified by the Army as Godwin Nnamdi, is a 40-year-old struggling father of two children, adding that his real is Citizen Godwin Nnaji.
The group said the man was taken from his rest and sleep following his sick-rest arising from work-related stress and pains after taking some pain reliefs.
The CSO said Nnaji was allegedly labelled an ESN Commander because a bangle with ‘rising sun’ insignia was found on him.
