Group calls for enactment of legislation to check growing cases of political blackmail.

The National Coordinator of HURIWA, EMMANUEL ONWUBIKO, made the call against the backdrop of an allegation that some politicians had approached his organisation to organize a street protest to tarnish the image of former Governor of Delta State, EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN.

ONWUBIKO claimed that those behind the plot mounted pressure on him and members of HURIWA to protest to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and call for UDUAGHAN to be investigate by the agency.

He said it was also proper to denounce the current blackmail by a section of the media, as well as for the war against corruption to be pursued on the basis of the rule of law.

It is also the opinion of the HURIWA Coordinator that ongoing mass demonization and character assassination of some members of the political class have created the impression that all political office holders are corrupt.
