Governors of Seventeen Southern States Hold Meeting in Abuja to Discuss Common Issues

The governors of the southern states would also try to reach a common position on the issues of security, devolution of powers and fiscal federalism.
The meeting is being jointly hosted by Governor AKINWUNMI AMBODE of Lagos State and Governor EMMANUEL UDOM of Akwa Ibom State.
According to a statement released by the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, TUNJI BELLO, the meeting will also addressed issues of common interest to the South-South, South-East and South-West geopolitical zones.
BELLO said it is expected that the participating states would explore ways to harness developments in the areas of comparative advantage in the various states.
He said the reason for bringing together all the governors of the southern states is so that they can speak with one voice and attract weighty and credible attention.
The first ever meeting of governors of the southern states of Nigeria was held in 2001 when Asiwaju BOLA AHMED TINUBU was the Governor of Lagos State.
