Gov Wike to close down substandard schools in Rivers State.

Governor WIKE said over one thousand schools have already been shut down for falling below standard, while parents and guardians of pupils of the affected schools have been told to get a new school for them.

 

The Governor, who was speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt during a courtesy visit by a team from a private school, observed that some illegal schools had become magic centres for examination malpractice.

 

He said beginning from September; the state government would ensure full implementation of measures that are aimed at strengthening the education sector. 

 

Governor WIKE maintained that education was critical in the agenda of his administration to transform the state and empower the people.

 

Meanwhile; the visitors informed the governor of the establishment of Jesuit Memorial College in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, in memory of sixty students of the foremost educational institution who died in a plane crash at the Port Harcourt International Airport in 2005.
