Gov Wike set up commission of inquiry to investigate infractions of Dec 10 rerun.

The seven-man Judicial Commission of Inquiry is chaired by Justice CHINWENDU NWOGU, while ALPHONSO SIBI doubles as Chief State Counsel and Secretary.

C. B. EKEH is the Principal State Counsel; while other members are GRACE AKPUGHUNUM-OKWULEHIE, Professor O.V.C. OKENE, Sir ANTHONY UZOMA OZURUMBA and Reverend Canon HOSSANNA NNAEWI.

A statement released by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, SIMEON NWAKAUDU, indicates that the Secretary to the State Government, KENNETH KOBANI, confirmed the constitution of the commission in a Special Government Announcement.

The statement noted that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry was set up by Governor WIKE in exercise of the powers conferred on him under Section Two, Subsection One of the Commissions of Inquiry Law of Rivers State.

The Commission has seven points of reference, including to investigate the remote and immediate causes of violence during the rerun election and to identify the perpetrators of the various acts of violence and killings in the elections.

It shall also identify victims of violence, including those killed; identify if properties were damaged and the value of any such; as well as to make appropriate recommendations concerning their findings or any other recommendations as the commission may consider appropriate.

Governor WIKE is expected to inaugurate the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Thursday, which is in turn expected to submit a report within one month, after public hearings.
