Governor WIKE granted reprieve to the convicted inmates in exercise of his constitutional powers on prerogative of mercy, following the advice of the State Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy.
The pardoned convicts include six inmates who were serving life sentnece and three others on death row.
The names of the freed inmates were given as CHUKWUEMEKA EMEKA, AKARA ETTEH, EMMANUEL IHENEBIRI, SAMUEL AMADI, Sergeant JAMES MORDI, and TOCHUKWU CHUKWU.
The pardoned prisoners on death row are GODDY DAVID FAGHAWARI, KENDU UFFORT and EMMANUEL DAVID EKANEM.
According to a statement signed by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, EMMANUEL AGUMA, the Comptroller of Prisons is authorised to discharge the above named persons from the Port Harcourt Prisons upon receiving the instrument signed by Governor NYESOM WIKE.
