The governor also directed the banks to close all dormant accounts of the state government and transfer available funds in approved functional accounts.
Governor WIKE pointed out that each Ministry can only operate one bank account, while no government agency is to open a bank account without authorization of the State Accountant General.
Governor WIKE gave the charge during an interactive session bank executives operating in Rivers State at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
He threatened to sanction any bank that is found to be threatening the state government’s efforts to generate revenue, including revocation of their certificates of occupancy.
The Rivers State Governor also disclosed plans to float a new tax policy in line with the practice of federalism in Nigeria.
He also directed the banks to stop paying other charges, until after the harmonisation of taxes payable to the Rivers State Government.
