Gov Wike calls for declaration of state of emergency in Benue.

Governor WIKE’s call is in apparent retaliation against Benue State Governor, SAMUEL ORTOM, whom he alleged was among those who politicised insecurity in the country, and in the past called for a statement of emergency in Rivers State.

WIKE said his Benue State counterpart has lost control and lacks the capacity to stand up for his people in the face of recurring attacks on inhabitants of farming communities by rampaging herdsmen.

A statement released by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, SIMEON NWAKAUDU, noted that Governor WIKE’s criticism of the Benue State Governor was during a meeting with officials from the University of Port Harcourt at the Government House.

He said when the problem of insecurity started in Rivers State; Governor ORTOM helped to give it a political colouration, instead of joining hands to proffer solutions.

Governor WIKE also noted that the strain relation between the Rivers State Government and the management of the University of Port Harcourt was because of his advice that the institution should not be involved in the rigging of the rerun legislative elections.

The statement also noted that the UNIPORT visitors to the Government House were led by the Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and Emir of Gwandu, General MUHAMMADU BASHAR.
