The revelation emerged as Gambians await the arrival in Banjul of President ADAMA BARROW, who remains in Dakar, Senegal where he was inaugurated last Thursday.
An adviser to the new president, MAI AHMAD FATTY said financial experts have been invited to review the state accounts to determine the exact loss.
FATTY told reporters in Dakar that The Gambia was in financial distress, as the state coffers are virtually empty.
He said the lean financial status of the government has been confirmed by technicians in the ministry of finance and the Central Bank of the Gambia.
You will recall that YAHYA JAMMEH succumbed to international pressure and threat of military invasion to step down following his defeat in last December presidential election.
On Saturday night as JAMMEH was preparing to be flown out of Banjul on exile to Guinea, luxury cars and other items were seen being loaded on to a Chadian cargo plane.
Meanwhile; troops of the West African standby force entered the Gambian capital, Banjul, in preparation for the arrival of President BAROW.
