Governor Siminalayi Fubara has forwarded a fresh list of commissioner-nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly following a recent peace agreement aimed at resolving the political crisis in the state.
The submission comes weeks after the governor dissolved the State Executive Council on February 12 as part of moves to stabilise governance.
The Clerk of the Assembly, Emeka Amadi, confirmed that nine nominees were submitted for screening and confirmation. The nominees have been directed to provide required documents, including multiple copies of their curriculum vitae, credentials and evidence of tax compliance ahead of their screening.
The development follows months of political tension between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, which had led to impeachment threats and governance challenges in the state.
The Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier withdrawn its impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy after the peace deal was reached.
