Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says the rehabilitation of the runway at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Port Harcourt demonstrates the strong partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Air Force in strengthening national security.
Speaking at the commissioning of the facility, Governor Fubara said the project reflects Rivers State’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces and protecting critical national assets. He noted that the state’s strategic position as the centre of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry makes its security important to the country’s economic stability.
Fubara said the rehabilitated runway would improve aerial operations, enhance rapid response and strengthen efforts against crude oil theft, illegal refining and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta. Commissioning the facility, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the Rivers State Government for the project, describing it as a demonstration of the strong collaboration between the state and the Nigerian Air Force.
