Four Judges Appointed to Speed up Trial of Book Haram Suspects from next Month

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court has appointed four judges to sit on some one thousand, six hundred related cases at the Kainji detention facility, with a mandate for expeditious dispensation of the cases.
The detainees in Kainji are in addition to six hundred and fifty-one suspected Boko Haram terrorists held at the Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This was made known by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI, through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, SALIHU OTHMAN ISAH.
The statement quoted the Minister saying the Legal Aid Council has equally approved a list of defence lawyers to stand in for the detainees and defendants.
It further noted that thirteen Boko Haram related cases have been concluded, with nine convictions secured so far, while trials are ongoing at various Federal High Courts on thirty-three other cases.
The office of the Attorney General of the Federation noted that poor investigation due to pressure at the peak of the Boko Haram conflict was partly responsible for the failure of some of the cases.
It also underscored over reliance on confession based evidence; lack of forensic evidence, absence of cooperation between investigators and prosecutors, and poor logistics for transportation of defendants from detention facility to court among setbacks in the trials.
