Former Rivers REC Gesila remanded by EFCC.

The remand order was made by Justice SAILU SAIDU of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, following the arraignment of GHESILA KHAN by the EFCC.

KHAN is to remain in the custody of the EFCC at its zonal office in Port Harcourt until Friday, when the trial is expected to continue in court.

GHESILA KHAN is being prosecuted by the EFCC for alleged bribery of one hundred and eighty million naira from yet to be named persons.

She allegedly committed the offence while serving as the Resident Electoral Commission in Rivers State during the 2015 general elections.

The accused person who was represented by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, had applied to the court for bail, but Justice decided that the application was not ripe for hearing and therefore adjourned the matter till Friday.

Our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA reports that GHESILA KHAN was arraigned alongside one PETER POPPIN who is a former member of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

POPPIN is alleged to have assisted the former Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner in receiving the gratification.

You will recall that GHESILA KHAN was arrested by the EFCC in 2015, and was detained for several months, while the anti-graft agency went about investigating allegations against her.

KHAN was against picked up from her home town in Bayelsa State by EFCC operatives last Sunday, leading to her arraignment.
