Former Minister of Interior, ABBA MORO, has been remanded in prison custody over his alleged role in the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment scam.MORO was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.The trial judge, Justice CHIKERE remanded the former minister in prison custody pending the determination of his application for bail.However, Justice CHIKERE upheld the release of the second accused person, ANASTASIA NWOBIA who was granted administrative bail by the EFCC.Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that counsel to NWOBIA, CHRIS UCHE who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, had asked the court to grant his client bail on ground that she was a nursing mother and a victim of circumstances in the case.Thereafter; the court fixed Wednesday, 2nd March to hear arguments on the bail application of the first accused person.The EFCC slammed criminal charges against ABBA MORO and ANASTASIA NWOBIA, as well as F.O. ALAYEBAMI and MAHMOOD AHMADU who are still on the run.The four accused persons, together with Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited, are alleged to have defrauded Nigerian Immigration Service applicants to the tune over six hundred and seventy-five million naira.They are alleged to have perfected the scam through an e-payment scheme for online registration for the recruitment exercise of the Nigeria Immigration Service.The anti-graft agency alleged that the accused persons contravened the Public Procurement Act of 2007 in the award of the online application contract.Meanwhile; a mild drama played out outside the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja when a group of persons staged a protest over the detention of ABBA MORO.
