Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former two-term councillor in Lagos State and seized multiple consignments of illicit drugs as part of intensified nationwide anti-drug operations.
The suspect, 45-year-old Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, a former councillor of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council and currently a legislative aide, was apprehended at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the arrest followed credible intelligence leading to a raid, where officers discovered 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, in one of the rooms.
The agency said investigations are ongoing as part of efforts to curb drug trafficking across Nigeria.
