Former governor of Rivers State, ROTIMI CHIBUIKE AMAECHI has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party to court over allegations that he owned foreign bank accounts. The immediate-past governor of Rivers State is also contesting allegations of embezzlement leveled against him by the PDP.
The matter filed before an Abuja High Court named State Chairman of the PDP, FELIX OBUAH and two others as defendants. According to a statement released by the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, the legal action is in response to statements issued by the PDP in Rivers State on the 6th and 21st of August this year. The statement noted that the PDP had on the said dates alleged that the former governor stole US dollar equivalent of eighty billion naira belonging to the Rivers State Government.
It further stated that the PDP had also alleged that the money was stashed away in an account in his name in Bancorp Bank in Minnesota, United States of America. In his statement of claims, ROTIMI AMAECHI denied stealing the sum of money as alleged, and stash way funds in any foreign bank account also as alleged. The statement noted that ever since the malicious libelous publications were made by the Rivers State PDP and its Chairman, FELIX OBUAH, the former governor said his respect has been lowered in the sight of many individuals. ROTIMI AMAECHI is praying the court to award three hundred billion naira against the PDP and its Chairman in Rivers State, FELIX OBUAH, in general damage for defamation of his character.
