FILLON won the party’s run-off yesterday with nearly sixty-seven percent of the vote to defeat his rival, ALAIN JUPPE.
In the run up to the party primary, FILLON promised to build a fairer society, adding that France wants truth and it wants action.
FILLON served as prime minister under former President NIKOLAS SARKOZY.
He is proposing dramatic economic reforms that include slashing some five hundred thousand public jobs, ending the thirty-five-hour week, raising the retirement age and scrapping the wealth tax.
FILLON is likely to face a Socialist candidate and the far-right’s MARINE LE PEN in the election in April 2017.
