The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji LAI MOHAMMED, gave this indication at the annual round table on cultural Orientation, which held in Kaduna.
The event was jointly organized by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Institute for Cultural Orientation.
LAI MOHAMMED cited situation reports showing what he described as a remarkable decline in the usage of indigenous languages by Nigerian children and youths.
He said many young Nigerians cannot read or write in their mother tongue, and as a result, endangering the indigenous languages.
The Minister canvassed for the revival of indigenous language newspapers as an important instrument to revive the fortunes of endangered languages.
He equally suggested the translation of Nigerian literatures into indigenous languages; as well as the adaptation of classics into comics, graphic novels, TV shows and animated feature films.
