FG, Stakeholders Begin On-the-Spot Assessment Ahead of Oil Resumption in Ogoniland

As part of confidence-building measures ahead of the planned resumption of oil activities in Ogoniland, major stakeholders have embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of key facilities across the region.

The delegation includes representatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Rivers State Government, the Ogoni Dialogue Committee, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and its joint venture partners.

Director General of Energy Security at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, said the visit follows the agreement reached between the Federal Government and the Ogoni people, after extensive consultations by the Ogoni Dialogue Committee. He emphasized that the Federal Government is committed to fulfilling its part of the agreement before oil exploration resumes.

Chairman of the Ogoni Dialogue Committee, Professor Don Baridam, expressed satisfaction with the government’s efforts, noting that the steps taken so far reflect genuine commitment.

Our correspondent reports that Special Assistant to the National Security Adviser, Goodluck Ebelo, and Secretary of the Energy Security Working Group, Prince Austin-Kabari, were part of the delegation. The team visited several key sites, including the East-West Road, the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Sakpenwa/Koroma Tai, the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration in Wiiyaakara, the proposed Industrial Park site in Taabaa, and medical facilities in Eleme, Tai, and Gokana Local Government Areas.
