FG secures court order to declare IPOB a Terrorist Group

The order was made by the Federal High Court sitting Abuja was based on an application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI.
The Attorney General had prayed the court to proscribe the IPOB based on claims that the group has all the ingredients of terrorist organization and had exhibited same through the formation of its own army, intelligence organization, alleged importation of arms and engaging in confrontation with the Nigerian Military.
Based on the submissions; the Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice ABDUL KAFARATI declared that the activities of IPOB in Nigeria, particularly in the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones constitute acts of terrorism.
The Court also restrained any person or group of persons from participating in the activities of IPOB and ordered the Federal Government to publish the order on proscription of IPOB in its official gazette and two national dailies.
Before the court order, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji LAI MOHAMMED, briefed the media in Abuja. confirming that President MUHAMMADU BUHARI had signed the necessary instruments for the proscription of Biafra before traveling to the United States for the UN General Assembly in New York.
