This was made known in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, which is headed by BABATUNDE FASHOLA.
The statement signed by the Senior Information Officer, OLUSEGUN OGUNKAYODE and circulated through PR-Nigeria, indicates that the figure is in addition to the sum of twelve point five-nine billion spent on similar projects last year.
It quoted the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, BABATUNDE FASHOLA making the revelation in Lagos at an interactive session to mark his first anniversary in office.
Together with the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, MUSTAPHA BABA SHEHURI, FASHOLA told the audience that on assumption of office, they inherited about two hundred and six ongoing road projects.
He said the total value of the already contracted road projects required about one point five trillion naira to complete them.
He said with limited resources against liabilities, the Ministry had to make difficult choices in deciding which of the contracts to take first.
The Minister said in spite of the economic importance of all the roads, some were more urgent and more impactful than others, which formed the basis in making the choices.
The former Governor of Lagos State also stated that the Ministry has developed a three-year plan to cover forty-two bridges that will require about two hundred and seventy-seven billion naira authorisation by the National Assembly over the period.
