FG Mulls Relocating Suleja Correctional Facility After Jailbreak

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a visit to the centre, revealed that the facility houses four hundred and ninety nine inmates, as opposed to the expected two hundred and fifty that it was initially built for.

Tunji-Ojo who confirmed that a total of one hundred and nineteen inmates had escaped, however, said thirteen were re-arrested.

His reaction followed reports that the facility management would publish the names and pictures of the escaped inmates from the centre.

Recall that torrential downpour had wreaked havoc on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, resulting in extensive damage to the facility.

The downpour caused severe damage to the custodial centre’s infrastructure, including a breach in the perimeter fence, allowing some of the inmates to flee.

Meanwhile, spokesperson for the NCoS, Federal Capital Territory Command, Adamu Duza, says the command is collaborating with other security agencies to recapture the fleeing inmates, whose database would soon be made known to the public.
