According to an electronic mail received by our correspondent, the lawsuit was initiated by a former President of the Movement of Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP; LEDUM METEE.
According to the statement; METEE is contending that the deplorable state and continued neglect of the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road amounts to violation of his fundamental human rights.
METEE is also holding the government responsible for the attendant carnage on the road, and he is demanding that government should be compelled to fund the completion of the East-West Road, up to Eleme Junction on Aba Road in Port Harcourt.
METEE said the lawsuit has been filed before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, with the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs as respondents.
The former MOSOP leader also explained that the legal action is being taken on behalf of himself as well as representing the interest of indigenes and residents of the various communities of Eleme, Ogoni, Okrika, Ogu-Bolo, Opobo, Andoni and Akwa Ibom State who use the road.
