The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commended state lawmakers of Ijaw extraction for standing firmly with him since the onset of the political crisis in Rivers State in 2023.
He made the commendation during a grand civic reception organized in his honour by the Wakirike Ethnic Nationality, which comprises nine clans across Okrika, Ogu/Bolo, and parts of Port Harcourt Local Government Area. Wike expressed his appreciation for the steadfast support of the Wakirikese people throughout the turbulent period.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Wilcox Idaminabo, praised Wike for his developmental projects both as Governor of Rivers State and now as Minister of the FCT, noting that Wike had laid the foundation for the development within the Wakirike Ethnic Nationality.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Senator George Sekibo, thanked Wike for his role in facilitating key appointments, including that of Boma Iyaye as Director of Finance in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), among others.
Our correspondent reports that the highlight of the event was the commissioning of internal roads and a town hall constructed by the NDDC, officially handed over by Minister Wike to the Wakirike community.
