The Dean of Students’ Affairs at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Dr. Abali Innocent, has called on students to report any cases of extortion or harassment by lecturers or staff as the institution prepares for its examination period.
Speaking in an interview with Today FM, Dr. Abali urged victims to come forward with credible evidence against any lecturer or non-academic staff demanding money or other forms of gratification in exchange for academic favours.
The Dean, who recently assumed office, said he is committed to repositioning the Directorate of Students’ Affairs by prioritising students’ welfare, enforcing discipline, and creating a safer academic environment.
He also disclosed that the college would partner with security agencies, including the OSPAC vigilante group, to strengthen security within and around the institution.
Dr. Abali further advised students to make meaningful use of the ongoing Students’ Week by focusing on their academic pursuits and avoiding cultism, violence, drug abuse, and other anti-social activities capable of jeopardising their future.
On student leadership, Dr. Abali, who chairs the committee overseeing the forthcoming Students’ Union Government (SUG) election, assured students of a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
He emphasised that the college management would not interfere in the election, while the outgoing SUG President, Ogbowu Eze Darlington, urged students to vote responsibly and ensure a peaceful and violence-free exercise.
