The CP gave the order yesterday after one engineer, Ibrahim Saliu, accused some policemen attached to the station of extorting two hundred thousand naira from him.

Saliu claimed the officers had detained him and his brother, Olaiya Murtala, for not providing an identity card or the receipts for the iPhones found on Olaiya.

Saliu also said the officers, alongside the station’s DPO, threatened him and his brother with jail time should they fail to provide receipts for the phones, describing them as thieves.

Saliu further said the policemen accused them of stealing and armed robbery and demanded that they make a five hundred thousand naira payment to secure their freedom, but that they later agreed to two hundred thousand naira, which they paid in cash.

Confirming the development in a statement, the spokesperson of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, all the officers involved have been identified and would undergo an orderly room trial.
