A huge explosion was heard across the city in the early hours of the morning, as Taliban fighters overran the compound.
The Chief of Police in Kabul, RAHMAN RAHIMI told reporters that a lorry bomb was set off at the gate of the North Gate compound, before two gunmen shot their way inside.
One police officer and both attackers were killed in a gun battle that followed the explosion, but no one staying at the compound was injured.
