Ex-Presidential Adviser Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Urges National Assembly to Prioritise Integrity in Screening Ambassadorial Nominees

Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on the National Assembly to subject the latest ambassadorial nominees to rigorous scrutiny, emphasising that personal integrity must outweigh political considerations.

In a statement on Sunday, Baba-Ahmed warned lawmakers against allowing factors such as regionalism, ethnicity, or partisan loyalty to overshadow the need for credible and morally upright diplomats. He noted that ambassadors represent Nigeria on the global stage, making it crucial that only individuals of unquestionable character are approved.

Baba-Ahmed added that the credibility of the country’s diplomatic corps depends on the quality of those appointed, urging legislators to ensure that the screening process reflects the nation’s commitment to professionalism and good governance.
