The immediate past Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Chijioke Ihunwo, has denied allegations of land grabbing levelled against him by the council authority.
Ihunwo, who spoke through his lawyer, Obidinma Obidinma, criticised the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council for acting on a petition over a disputed piece of land without first obtaining his side of the story.
He accused the current council chairman, Dr. Gift Worlu, of engaging in a witch-hunt concerning the land located in Rukpokwu town, which was originally owned by the Rumuamadi-Ojukwu and Rumuijima communities.
According to his lawyer, Ihunwo followed due process in acquiring the land from the communities. He explained that families in the Rumuijima community initially asked Ihunwo to manage the land in 2022 before later offering him the opportunity to purchase it in 2024.
Obidinma further called on the police to disregard any calls for the arrest of his client, insisting that the transaction was lawful and properly documented.
